Rumley halts Cook’s hot streak with breakout victory at Ace
By Adam Smith of The Times-News
ALTAMAHAW — With a recent collection of runner-up finishes and top qualifying times, nobody had knocked harder on the proverbial door than Dustin Rumley.
He kicked it in Friday night.
And in the process, the McLeansville young gun raided Rodney Cook’s winning streak on the strength of a convincing victory in the 75-lap Late Models feature at Ace Speedway.
“The car was real good,” Rumley said. “I was able to run it hard and get a good, comfortable lead and just sit back and ride just a little bit.
“I was trying to save some in case we had a caution or if Rodney came on through there. Because you know Rodney, he always runs hard every lap.”
Rumley never had to rely on those safeguards while breaking through for his first winning performance of the season — and fourth of his career — in the track’s premier classification.
